Genre is a very broad term in regards to introducing different mediums of texts to express opinion, facts, emotions, etc. Since genres do not fall in a particular category, there is no such thing as a full-proof formula to create a perfect literary work. However, there are many factors to include when it comes to composing a genre for a specific audience or assignment. One must consider the individual’s characteristics as in gender, age, ethnicity, along with their interests and social standings. No need to write an Anti-Trump piece for Fox News or ways around male pattern baldness presentation for a class of middle schoolers. It is also important to consider the purpose of the piece and the different types of rhetorical appeals or styles he or she should consider while writing. If it is for academia, one should choose their sources carefully and use the ethos approach to give credibility to their writing. We are constantly exposed to genres in our everyday lives, I had not realized that until I took ENC 2135 and read chapter 1 of the Big Book of Genres to know how influenced we truly are when it comes to different types of media. Text is everywhere!
